Had an outstanding experience at the French laundry on 8/7/24 to celebrate my PhD graduation. The service was even better than I expected. That was even more impressive because they had a power outage but kept the kitchen running. If the pics are a bit dark that’s why.

The vegetarian tasting menu was incredible. The vegetarian oyster and pearls looked just like the meat version. My favorite dishes were the Mac and cheese with truffles (yes there’s Mac and cheese in that pic) and the cassoulet of summer pole beans. They actually gave us the eggplant parm extra because we wanted to try try both. The only dish I wasn’t fond of was the basil soup, which was a substitution for the summer melon salad.

The wine pairing was perfect. They let you choose how much you want to spend pp and cater the wine pairing to your wants. Austin, the somm, chose perfect wines for us.

At the end, they have a look into the kitchen and the chefs were wearing headlamps! After that we wanted to sit in the courtyard outside so they gave us free glasses of moscato and scarves.

Over all it was a magical evening and I’d recommend 10/10

  1. The photo of the chefs with the headlamps on is iconic! What an amazing operation they run to be able to keep it going with no electricity
