Had a truly fantastic meal at Per Se yesterday to celebrate another summer of work coming to an end in the US

The service was perfect and I felt genuinely welcomed and taken care of. Had several great conversations with all of the members of staff who served me. A tour of the kitchen was offered to me and it was incredible to see how it all happens, and of course the live link to TFL.

The standout dishes for me were the oysters and pearls, and the beef.

I decided to add the foie gras supplement and was happy I did, the tartlet was great and very flavourful.

The only dish I thought could’ve been better was the lobster course but it was still very enjoyable.

I hope one day to get over to TFL but for now I am content with having had what is far and away the best meal of my life so far at Per Se.

PS they do in fact enforce their dress code, and I luckily had a shirt in my bag otherwise they would’ve had me borrow a jacket.

  1. Forgot to add the picture of the strawberry gazpacho, which was a highlight as well!

  2. I saw a review of Per Se on another thread in here a while back that perfectly described my experience – if you want to know what it feels like to be a billionaire this is the place to go.

Though no where near some of the people in this sub, I’ve been to a lot of Michelin restaurants over the years and Per Se has always been my favorite. Other places have had more interesting combos and presentation, but from a flavor and service level nothing else has been close.

  3. This looks incredible – I likewise loved Per Se when I went earlier this year. Hope you get the chance to go to TFL someday!

  4. My wife and I ate at Per Se back in June. It was the most incredible dining experience. Everything from the food to the wine to the view of the circle and the absolutely impeccable service.

We were worried that the place would be exclusive and snooty given its reputation. We could not have been more wrong. The som was extremely helpful and customized a paring and gave us a list of other recommended wines that we could find in most stores (as opposed to the TK exclusive wines that were served). The servers all took their time to chat with us. One of them was just the right amount of snarky and joked with us in a delightful way. While brushing the crumbs from the table they joked about their job was to “hide my shame”. We still quote that.

The experience really is in the details, and they nail every single one.

Nothing is an afterthought. That silly little ritz cracker in the 2nd picture? One of the best things I’ve ever had.

If I could eat oysters and pearls every night for the rest of my life, I would.

I will agree that the only underwhelming course was the butter poached lobster. Strange as that is a TK signature and one of his bigger contributions to fine dining.

Truly a phenomenal experience. Glad that you enjoyed it.

We will also try to go to TFL next year. Fingers crossed.

Very baroque presentation. A nice break from most of the minimalism at other high end places.

Love Per Se. Excellent food. There were a couple small flaws when we went last year, but overall extremely good. While similar, we liked TFL even more – everything about our experience there was flawless perfection.

So glad you enjoyed Per Se. My wife and I went there for our 10th anniversary and it was phenomenal – refined yet personal; each course was a hit. It’s definitely a top 3-5 for us.

Would people choose Per Se or Le Bernardin if you could only go to one during a visit to NYC?

When I saw your solo Ritz cracker in the second photo I figured you were a solo diner. TK has a philosophy about treating solo guests with extra care due to his poor experiences being ignored as a solo diner when he was a young cook trying to eat and learn about food. I’m glad they treated you well. It is a very special place.

  10. The server overheard me tell my friend I was chilly and they brought out shawls for us to use.
