In response to the caption on your first photo: I think extebarri is very much so considered fine dining. Congrats on getting the opportunity to go!

We were here maybe 9 years ago and I can *still* remember exactly what those prawns taste like.

How hard was to get a reservation? I know their system has changed this year and it’s a pain to submit a request. Any tips? 🙂

  4. Tried desperately in 2019 to get a rez. No luck. Still had the most brilliant food of my life in Donostia (marry me Martín Berasategui) but I’m still haunted by not getting into this place.

Yeah, #3 on the top 50 with a Michelin Star, ~300 USD tasting menu, no reservations available, can anyone help me figure out if its fine dining?

Yes!!! My wife and I went back in 2017 and it was an absolutely amazing experience!

  7. I love when photos have a description of the taste, it makes it look so much better

  8. Wowee I am SO jealous! I have visited the Basque country several times but still never made it here yet. It’s right at the top of my bucket list. Looks absolutely unreal

  9. To think they reached such greateness with “simple” dishes is truly amazing.

Is there another place in Europe that could compare? Since this is pretty hard to reach (and a whoke lot of money goes into the whole process)

  10. The first time I ate here was in 2007, back when it wasn’t quite so well-known. I still remember this party of rowdy Hong Kongers sitting on the top floor, having a ball. When they noticed my family entering (we’re also of Chinese descent), they started shouting out at us from the balcony in Cantonese to say hi and how rare it was to see other Asians “on the scene”. We were SO embarrassed.

This looks PHENOMENAL. Your descriptions really drove it home but this post spoke to me. Everything looks absolutely stunning.

I’m late to the party but went 4 years ago during a binge restaurant trip in Spain – by far the best place I’ve ever been to.

  13. Great photos! This really brings back memories. I last went in January 2020 just before covid struck.

Totally agree with you that the prawns – Gambas the Palamos were phenomenal. They are even better than what I bought from the port of Palamos itself right as they were unloaded from the trawlers.
