Buy a block of halloumi
Shave the whole thing with a cheese shaver to get strips
Put in a sealable container with
One spoon of marmite two palms full of salt
And like almost a quarter a bottle of liquid smoke
Add water until until all are covered
Let marinade over night
Fry in butter on high flip them take out before they burn.
No this can’t be vegan it’s basically frico

Yeah this technique with tofu works decently, just bake it for a long time till it starts to get brownish/black

A quarter bottle of liquid smoke sounds like a sickening amount… I use a maximum of three shakes of the bottle for anything I’m cooking
Like I said in that one comment you probably don’t need like exactly a fourth a bottle just a lot and enough to change the liquid from clear to diffinitively brown
The worst thing that can happen is when you dont get any smoke flavor
I’ve messed it up a few times
That’s why I said leave it in over night
Kenji Lopez-Alt had a great vegan version with king oyster mushrooms but I can’t find king oysters around here.
Does it get nice and crunchy, like American bacon?
