Thank you so much to this community for all of its advice!! I’m mostly a lurker but I appreciate everything everyone shares. When I took the pork belly out of the tupperware, I noticed a little bit of fluffy white mold. If it wasn’t for you folks, I would’ve been heartbroken and foolishly thrown it out, since this is my first cure ever, but because of you I knew to wash it with vinegar and not stress about it. The slănină tasted delicious and I’m excited to share this piece of my culture with my friends!

Recipe can be found in Irina Georgescu’s cookbook “Carpathia”. It’s just pork, salt, pepper, and garlic.

Are you cutting the right direction? Kinda looks like you’re cutting with the grain.
