I have covid, a new strane I guess bc I Never felt like this before. It’s absolutely horrible. I can’t keep my head up for more than an hour so it’s a Take out tonight for sure! Fried vegetarian rice, fried crispy noodles, and a cold coconut water .

How do I know they didn’t use the same wok as they did , let’s say for the beef fried rice?? I eat vegetarian strictly for enjoyment purposes, so I don’t mind cross-contamination, but I do wary for others who is religious reasons, or other dietary reasons.

It’s so good but can we trust these places?? They are definitely using the same utensils

  1. Short answer – no, you can’t trust any place that isn’t fully vegetarian. If you’re that strict you should assume there will be a certain amount of cross contamination in any kitchen that handles non-vegetarian items. It will be up to you to decide if it’s a deal breaker. Most vegetarians I know will risk it, but friends who keep strictly kosher won’t because that’s outside of their comfort zone.

  2. i don’t even trust dishes that say they’re vegetarian. i just don’t do restaurants or fast food because of it, period.

but a lot of non-chain places, they’ll be like “the rice/noodles/something at all fried is veg!” but then it’s actually never been because they’ll use chicken/beef broth or reuse the oil from the cooking meat. lowkey gelatin in a lot of sweets.

Pretty sure that there will be cross contamination. Unless it’s a really high rated restaurant, you will find trace amounts of animal protein in your food.

I don’t like the taste of meat, so whenever I can taste the use of chicken stock or lard or whatever, I stop eating at those restaurants.

  4. I would always assume there is cross contamination unless explicitly stated otherwise.

People who avoid certain/all types of meat for religious reasons are usually very selective about what restaurants they will go to (ex: Kosher).

  5. It’s everywhere. I am sensitive to animal fats. So I can feel it if there is. It definitely limits where i can eat safely. We are careful regarding new places.

  6. I just got over COVID too. I was super sick for 2 days, then 2 days of feeling ok but still icky. Today is day 5 and I’m finally feeling almost 100%.

    Feel better soon!

For religious and dietary, it’s better to go to an all vegan or vegetarian place. Or order something like salads that don’t have to be cooked

For many vegetarians, the point is to not by meat so less animals will be killed or so you are not supporting the slaughter in which case a little cross contamination is fine. I’d say still not preferable since red meat and animal fats will usually upset your stomach if you haven’t eaten it in a long time
