3rd visit at the Village Pub. I’ve been here before they were starred and right when they re-opened during the lockdown.

The brunch meal was as well as I remembered. Cooking wise, they’ve been consistent and a solid choice for a start to a leisurely weekend.

The dungeness crab omelette is an excellent supplement; minimal ingredients, but done well and has a complex flavor from the stravecchio. One thing to note is that it’s common to underestimate how filling this is, so plan your courses accordingly.

The Caledonia blue prawns and grits is an excellent take on comfort food with class. Though to be fair, it can be a bit messy to eat as blue prawns are exceedingly meatier than the standard prawns, particularly in the head section, but it’s not exactly easy extracting it with knives and forks.

This was one of the few restaurants in the Bay that carried Nikka Taketsuru 21 and as one would expect, that bottle has long gone dry. They do, however, now have a wider selection, including Ichiro’s.

Only point of criticism was the service during brunch. Not leaving behind the wine menu after ordering in case we wanted more drinks, not asking how to prepare the whiskey after ordering, floor staff taking away the second order of scones that I requested even though we clearly were not done. Truly odd, as my previous experience with their dinner service was excellent.

  2. Maybe some of the worst plating I’ve seen at any fine dining restaurant, starred or not. I’m sure some of it tasted good, but WTF is that oyster presentation?

The dark chocolate ice cream plate might raise a certain type of phobia for some folks
