Great overall experience here. I had been wary of Saga because I felt slightly underwhelmed at Crown Shy (same chef), but Saga definitely lived up to the hype. When you get off the 63rd floor at the historic 70 Pine Street (formerly AIG building), you’re greeted with complimentary drinks. You’re then escorted to their spacious balcony and get to take in the gorgeous views, unfortunately it was too cold but a great place to sip on the delicious cocktails before dinner. I would recommend coming when the weather is warmer for a more complete experience. The vibe in the dining room is immaculate, the friendly servers and plush carpeting makes you feel like you’re having a lavish dinner at your own penthouse.

The first half of the meal was more standard fine dining fare, everything was delicious but no real surprises. Second half is where Saga stands out, there were a lot of Middle Eastern/Moroccan influences, a rarity in fine dining. I don’t usually love Middle Eastern food but it worked here. Some of my favorite bites/dishes were:

#1&2 Canapes – crab, tuna, abalone, oyster, uni, and octopus
#3 Royal Sturgeon Caviar w/ brown butter and bonito
#6 Knafeh w/ pistachio and huckleberry
#8 Duck Tagine w/ m’semen bread, sunchoke, persimmon, brussels sprout, chickpea, harissa, chili honey, yogurt, hummus
#9 Moroccan Tea w/ orange blossom, date, pistachio

Menu was in PDF so feel free to ask about any specific dish. This tasting menu was pricey at $345 but I think it is worth it for a special occasion.

    Edit: Added entire menu.

#4 Morcilla w/ butternut squash, mole
    #5 Chicory w/ butternut squash
#7 Black Bass w/ scallop, little neck clam, carrot, sesame, curry
#10 Apple Tarte Tatin w/ buckwheat ice cream, madeira sabayon
#11 Candy – pumpkin walnut bonbon, yuzu kosho caramel bonbon, rice crispy treat, satsuma nougat, dark chocolate pretzel caramel

  2. If you would please, descriptions of each dish would be helpful. Pics are great, but If we don’t know what it is, we won’t experience the same ingenuity and creation that you had. Please and thank you.

  3. Jassimran Singh who I believe primary works upstairs at Saga took over Crown Shy two nights each the past 2 months for a Northern Indian inspired food menu. Was outstanding desserts in particular but the mixed appetizers was also good.

  4. Overstory, the bar right above it, is one of the coolest bars I’ve ever been to. That view is incredible. The music and ambience is perfect.

We went to Saga last year in April before they got their stars and already said then that they probably deserve to get two straight away! One of my favourite meals ever, and they were incredibly kind about accommodating certain food preferences my husband had. We had a lamb main course at that time which I’ll definitely never forget!

  6. Wow! These pics are great! What are the white pieces in the top of #3? Is that the bonito?

Pic #8 looks incredible too. What’s the sauce/broth in the little bowl in the bottom left?

I have to ask, and I know it’s all subjective, but how did the overall experience at Saga compare to other tasting menus you’ve had in NY? This one definitely looks quite delicious and right up my alley plus the view is perfect.

I went to Saga last fall and loved it. Some of the reviews I read criticizing the pacing / organization were true for us. Especially the beginning – getting into the elevator, out to the balcony and then to the table – all felt out of sync. But the food was delicious and it was a really unique experience. I want them to lean into the Moroccan influence even more. The other dishes (such as the caviar) were enjoyable but not that unique. The North African inspired dishes were excellent and felt one-of-a-kind. That’s where it really shined
