  1. Adapted from @woon.heng’s recipe on her [insta](https://www.instagram.com/p/CDjOFZQp52w/?igshid=vco3jaz79pyv).

I’m tired of tomato sauce recipes tasting like canned tomatoes + whatever Italian spices i can find in my cabinet. I saw this recipe by one of my favorite asian-cuisine Instagram recipe developer, and although it’s fairly low in calories to begin with, I played around with it to get the maximum amount of flavor with the lowest amount of calories. I cut out the regular oil and reduced 1/2 the amount of soy sauce. I beg you, DO NOT SKIP SESAME OIL (it’s only 13cal more for so much flavor). It is so essential to the nutty flavor and really makes the dish 5x better.

As an asian myself, I can attest that it has an authentic, Chinatown restaurant dish taste. I put it on shirataki noodles but this sauce tastes best with regular rice. All of her other recipes are amazing as well so I definitely suggest you guys checking her out.

    ✨My low-calorie adaptation (1 serving):✨

    • 90g firm tofu (~1/5 of package) (76)

    • 1/3 tsp sesame oil (13)

    • 1/2 tbsp soy sauce (10)

    • 1/2 tsp zero-cal sweetener

    • 40g canned tomatoes (~1/4 cup) (9)

    • pinch salt (to taste)

    • green onions (optional)

Directions: Stir-fry and crumble tofu in a non-stick pan on low-med heat until moisture evaporates (1-2min). Mix salt, sweetener, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Pour sauce over tofu and cook on medium heat for a minute. Add canned tomatoes and continue to mix until you get a saucy mixture. Garnish with green onions.

  2. One of the most famous literary potatoes comes from James Joyce’s masterpiece Ulysses. The main character, Leopold Bloom, has a potato in his pocket for much of the novel, and the book includes the phrase “Potato Preservative Against Plague and Pestilence, pray for us” in one chapter.
