Beautiful interior and exterior at Steirereck.
We went for the 6-course menu with a single wine pairing shared between two of us.
Their famous bread trolley service is phenomenal. They had around 20 varieties of bread. The bacon one, as well as the blood sausage one, were my favourites.

3rd picture: their famous char cooked in beeswax course. They pour the hot wax over the raw char tableside, where it cooks for 8-10 minutes, while you’re having your prior course. Then it gets taken to the kitchen to get plated.

4th picture: Pom Pom Blanc with sweetcorn, pomelo and white alba truffle. Simply sublime, very premium ingredients, priced at +€25 supplement, which is reasonable imo.

5th picture: the Char with Beeswax, Yellow Carrot in three ways, char caviar, apple juice and sour cream, plated. I see why this is the dish they are famous for. Textures and flavours played really well together here. Loved that particular course.

6th picture: Roasted Pheasant Breast, Red Cabbage, Parsley Root in three ways, pheasant sauce with lovage oil. Another great dish, love the consistency here.

7th picture: our favourite wine from the wine flight. Amazing bottle, paired so well with the course that followed.

8th picture: Wild Duck cooked on the bone, with Radicchio, Uhudler and Chinese Mint-Shrub. This dish was good, but the wine made it much more memorable. We were also getting quite full at this point, so we were looking forward to dessert more, to be fair…

9th picture: Melonette Jaspin Pumpkin Waffle, pumpkin salad with little buddha physallis verjus, pickled orange from the orangery at the Schonbrunn palace. Grey Poppy Seed ice cream. Definitely one of the better desserts I’ve had in a while. Sweet and sour/bitter played up so well, cut through by the neutrality of the poppy seed ice cream. Lovely textures and presentation.

10th picture: Vanillekiepferl, a traditional Austrian biscuit, served around Christmas time. We were served one each from their trolley (they sure love their trolley service, we were also offered to try their Schnapps trolleys, and we politelt declined) from butter and vanilla flavours. Nice little touch, paying homage to tradition.

11th picture: exterior with Christmas tree at Steirereck.

All in all, a solid ** experience. Consistently good food, premium ingredients, amazing bread service, good wine selection. They add service charge to the bill, so the total for 6 courses for 2, with one wine pairing, water, and a supplemental charge for the pom pom blanc course came up to €635. Can definitely recommend going when you are in Vienna, it sure is not to be missed!
