Lunch visit to The Ledbury at the weekend, about a month after they were awarded their third star.

Hugely enjoyable 8 course tasting menu; they are still currently offering the full dinner tasting menu at a discounted £185 at lunch – by my reckoning that’s the cheapest 3 star tasting menu in UK (and probably cheaper than most 2 star as well!) .

For us, this was definitely up there with our favourite restaurants in UK (L’Enclume & CORE).

1. Chalk Stream Trout
2. Black Bream
3. Veal sweetbread
4. Turbot
5. Mushrooms from the cabinet
6. Jersey Beef
7. Lemon
8. Chocolate & Jerusalem Artichoke

Highlights were the sweetbread, Chocolate
and Jersey Beef main, however, every single course was a big hitter! Fish dishes were subtle, but absolutely delivered in complexity and vibrancy of flavours.

The Jersey Beef main in the pic is without a doubt the tastiest single course I have ever eaten and blew away one of our previous favourites (CORE’s Beef & Oyster).

Service was spot on, just the right level of formality, but fun, friendly and engaging!

I have a reservation for the Ledbury in May 👌 this looks like a solid menu, and the concept of a mushroom cabinet is quite novel (how does that work? Do you have any choice in which mushrooms are used, or are you shown the mushrooms beforehand?).

Out of interest, what are those amuse bouche?

Happy to hear this place reopened. My wife and I had a wonderful dinner here in 2017.

I was there about 10 years ago, and it was one of my first fine dining experiences and it was incredible.

  4. We did Core last year (and were blown away) and are trying to do one of the UKs top tier restaurants each year going forward. Decided on L’enclume for this year but I think the Ledbury might be next year’s choice.
