Hi folks, sharing some of my São Paulo recommendations.

First of all – São Paulo is an immigrant city, so to enjoy food there, you gotta embrace Japanese, Italian and Northeastern Brazilian cuisines and their cross-pollination.

Of course, Northeast of Brazil is a world in itself, and it’s hard to melt it into “northeastern food” – Bahia state, for example, has very different food traditions if you go to the coast vs. the countryside. However, for the sake of simplicity and of a starting point, I’m referring it all as “Northeastern food”. Also – there are many more cultures that helped create São Paulo – Lebanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Germans, South of Brazil – but I will not focus on those in this post.

My recommendations, on the order of the photos:

1. Kan Zuke. 1 Michelin Star, 50 Best Discovery LATAM. Amazing omakase. Picture: Grouper with Shiro Goma sauce and Dashi and Shoyu gellatin.

2. Shin Zushi. Omakase at the counter is a must. Akami, perfect cooked egg yolk, Ikura, Ponzu.

3. Makoto-san. Omakase at the counter. Aji sashimi.

4. Picchi. 1 michelin star. They have a la carte, but do the full chef’s tasting menu, you won’t regret it. Parmesan, tomato, bread, anchovy tortelli.

5. Fame. 50 best discovery LATAM. Agnolotti in brodo.

6. Fame. To show the cross-pollination of italian and japanese influence – buri with uni and ikura sauce.

7. DOM. 2 michelin stars, 50 best LATAM. DOM made its claim to fame with the ant dish, but this one was remarkable, and also showcase cross-pollination with japanese culture. Momotaro tomato marinated in dashi and filled with Bacuri (amazon fruit).

8. Tuju. Before closing, was 2 michelin stars, and now reopened. Seasonal menu, local ingredients. Corn Chawanmushi with Uni and mushrooms (eryngi).

Not all pictures are of their latest menu. But hope it’s useful! 🙂
