I think I’m becoming jaded with French Michelin Restaurants. Cristal Room by Anne-Sophie Pic was awarded a Michelin Star within its first year of being open.
It started beautifully
- Amuse Bouche of carrot tartlet and Uni tartlet. Both delicate and intense flavours
- Amuse Bouche taco, looked beautiful but not memorable
- Sensational bread and butter, crunchy and the butter was super interesting
- Chinese peas from Yunnan with caviar was fresh and salty; I liked it
- Dish of the night was ‘Les Berlingots’; Comte cheese in delicate pasta parcels and an unctuous mushroom broth.
- Was truely terrible, texturally and flavour wise it just failed. Bitter artichoke with egg and a Beurre Blanc that held no flavour
- Brittany Blue lobster with a lobster and rhubarb tart felt like two separate dishes on the plate. Lobster was nicely cooked
- Classic original 1970s version of the family’s signature dish; sea bass caviar and a pretty lovely caviar Champaign sauce.
- John Dory was massively overcooked and the skin rubbery. The sauces were confused and contradictory. Watercress versus berries – just confusing
- Cheese course was a chess mochi; interesting mix of sweet and savoury
- Dessert was a vanilla panacotta, it was nice but not that memorable
Given the price of the meal; it was a little disappointing overall
