I think I’m becoming jaded with French Michelin Restaurants. Cristal Room by Anne-Sophie Pic was awarded a Michelin Star within its first year of being open.

It started beautifully

  1. Amuse Bouche of carrot tartlet and Uni tartlet. Both delicate and intense flavours
  2. Amuse Bouche taco, looked beautiful but not memorable
  3. Sensational bread and butter, crunchy and the butter was super interesting
  4. Chinese peas from Yunnan with caviar was fresh and salty; I liked it
  5. Dish of the night was ‘Les Berlingots’; Comte cheese in delicate pasta parcels and an unctuous mushroom broth.
  6. Was truely terrible, texturally and flavour wise it just failed. Bitter artichoke with egg and a Beurre Blanc that held no flavour
  7. Brittany Blue lobster with a lobster and rhubarb tart felt like two separate dishes on the plate. Lobster was nicely cooked
  8. Classic original 1970s version of the family’s signature dish; sea bass caviar and a pretty lovely caviar Champaign sauce.
  9. John Dory was massively overcooked and the skin rubbery. The sauces were confused and contradictory. Watercress versus berries – just confusing
  10. Cheese course was a chess mochi; interesting mix of sweet and savoury
  11. Dessert was a vanilla panacotta, it was nice but not that memorable

Given the price of the meal; it was a little disappointing overall
