Had a great meal at Pujol today. The service, ingredients and flavours were amazing. What they did best was at their speciality: fish and seafood, specially a very fresh tuna with heart of palm juice and pico de gallo and the abulón tostada. The meat course had a very tender and flavorful wagyu (or so they say, raised in Mexico but it really did seem like wagyu) but not sure about inserting it in a tortilla course which also had very good ingredients (like a roasted eggplant pure) but ended up overtaking the meat when put together. Honestly the famous mole was a bit underwhelming to me, since I’m not sure cooking it for 3522 days made it a lot different than a regular good black mole. Still, it tasted quite good with the tortillas and the red mole it comes with. Awesome dessert and mignardises.

The pleasant surprise of the meal was an additional fish empanada. So simple yet so rich in flavour. Easily the best empanada I’ve ever had.

It’s probably worth mentioning that I went to Quintonil two days ago, since those two restaurants are usually compared. Great food and service there too, probably more creative but overall I think I’ll remember the food at Pujol more. Worth visiting both, though.

  1. Pujol is a controversial one on this sub, but I am a big fan and have enjoyed a lot my two visits. Far more than Quintonil.

I went on sept 16 and the mole was 3508 days old. Math checks out.

Anyways, im gonna rant on this one. A lot of foodie friends told me to skip pujol and go to rosetta. I went to both and pujol was one of the best meals ive ever had and rosetta was unanimously disappointing for our party of 8.

Ive been to 10+ 3 stars and pujol belonged with those imo. The rock fish dish was one of the best things ive ever had.

Oh also the tomato broth thing in the first picture was mind blowing. So good.

  3. I also just did both this past week. Personally I enjoyed Quintonil significantly more. That empanada looks good though, I didn’t get so lucky

I enjoyed it, especially for the price. Though I’d say half the dishes were amazing, the other half were good but not particularly mind blowing.

Though my husband did get his meal comped because his cabbage taco came with a live caterpillar. The first waiter tried to convince us that it means this is very fresh. The second (head) waiter nearly fainted when he saw it, refreshed both of our plates immediately.

I’ve been there about a dozen times but boycotted after they set that woman on fire and just turned her table over without any compensation while the was taken to the hospital. It looks…better than the last times I’ve gone? I hadn’t been served meat in either their traditional or taco omakase for a few years and never a fun surprise bite. Also, petit fours seem to be new! Maybe worth checking out again.

I did Pujol’s taco omakase years ago and it absolutely left an impression!

Didn’t know Pujol was controversial on this sub lol
