Really excellent elevated Korean-style ramyun spot in the West Village. Casual but flexible – can pop in for a bowl of ramen at the bar and a glass of wine (although you’ll need a reservation, basically impossible to walk in), or assemble a more complicated meal. They also have a couple of showpiece items (rack of lamb, ribeye) that I’d like to try at some point.

The Toro Ssam Bap is the one truly decadent appetizer that’s worth ordering, we added the uni supplement as well which I think is a ‘why not?’ – a totally luxurious bite. I should have taken the photo before I started smushing up the uni, my bad.

The mains were great, I think the family ramyun was my favorite. Noodles were perfectly cooked, broth was phenomenal, just a remarkable bowl of ramen that’s about as well put together as it could be.

The wine list is pricey on the bottle side but plenty of <$20 glasses, this meal was $300 including tax and tip and four glasses of wine.

The room is nice, service is good, vibe is casual, and I think it’s deserving of the star. It compares well with other 1* Korean spots (Jua, Kochi) but the a la carte format and flexibility sets it apart.

  1. I went and was mostly disappointed. It wasn’t bad by any means, in fact really good, but taking into account the service, it did not deserve a Michelin star.
