This was our first fine dining and Michelin star experience, and we decided to come here because we were visiting Alsace as part of our honeymoon trip, and JYs has a reputation as a high quality but affordable 2 star restaurant.
Overall, the food was incredible, with the first several dishes being the main highlights. The vegetables in the the amuse bouche seemed to have their flavors totally maximized, and the crab dish with the papaya jelly veil and tropical vinaigrette was my favorite dish of the night, with perfectly balanced flavors of salty, sweet, sour, and spicy. The two main course fish dishes were perfectly cooked, but were bit too bland for me and were a bit of a let down. The beef was an awesome last course, with the broth being the most amped up beef broth I’ve ever had. Desserts were super refreshing and tasty, but the rhubarb dessert had inedible pieces of rhubarb which was pretty disappointing.
I didn’t know what to expect with the service, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the service here. It seemed very stiff and unfriendly, and this was also the only restaurant in France where we asked for water and got charged for it (14 euros for the night).
Overall this was a fun and tasty experience, but we preferred eating in the small and family owned restaurants throughout France, which we also thought had incredibly high quality food (Soul Kitchen in Beaune, Le Petit Bidon in Colmar, Au Passage and Le Servan in Paris).

I visited while hiking Alsace this year and agree it was enjoyable but the sommelier’s descriptions of the wines did get shorter and shorter as the evening went on! Two cool things I liked: the room had large windows overlooking the park Which introduced a unique meditative experience compared to other noisy places in Alsace.
They were good at sauces, and usually the waiter runs off with the sauce after pouring it – at jy’s the leave it at the table, in a special slot next to where butter and bread is kept.
