Since I got crucified for the ketchup dogs I’m trying again and showing the whole family’s carrot dog preference. I had my spouse hide his ketchup under the carrot, mustard and relish this time since that seemed to be a real trigger for y’all. And a picture of the leftover calico beans, since you’re worried about my protein intake (thanks for caring guys.)

Recipe from brandnewvegan.com
6-8 Carrots (peeled)
Marinade
1/4 cup Soy Sauce (low sodium)
1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar (Braggs)
1/4 cup Vegetable Broth (low sodium)
2 Tbs Maple Syrup
1 Tbs Liquid Smoke
1 tsp Yellow Mustard
1 tsp Fresh Garlic (minced)
1 tsp Pickled Jalapeno Juice
1/2 tsp Onion Powder

Instructions
Cut and peel carrots to make them “bun length’.
Boil carrots in water until just fork tender. About 10-15 minutes.
Drain carrots, rinse with cold water, and drain again. Place carrots in a ziplock freezer bag.
Whisk all marinade ingredients together and pour into bag with carrots.
Marinate for 4-6 hrs.
Grill carrots on an open grill, basting occasionally.
I pan grilled mine with some of the marinade which worked well.

In all seriousness, do they still taste like carrots? I like the idea but hate cooked carrots

My family loves carrot dogs, even the meat eaters. They’re always a big hit at family bbqs.

  3. I feel like you should re-use the marinade! Idk, maybe mix it into a lentil salad or potato salad or as a soup base or something. Sounds absolutely delicious!

  4. I just made these because of your first post. I was amazed at how little the carrot flavor came through. I should have simmered them for just a wee bit longer to make them more tender, but the flavor/texture was SO hot dog like! I did cut the amount of Liquid Smoke in half because that stuff is strong, but otherwise followed the recipe.

I remember your first carrot dog post. And I supported it then.

Now, you took it up a notch and made it irresistibly delicious! Great job!!
I’ll try this for sure sometime. Thanks!

I would prefer to see a potato dog cut into a long strip and fried like a french fry very crispy n well done with these toppings

  7. I haven’t done carrot dogs before, but I’ve done bunnies in blankets. They were good. I would try these.

  8. Bad Manners food has a delicious carrot dog recipe! Highly recommend. Even my omni husband requests them

Wow how could anyone hate cooked carrots? What are you just boiling them plain? So many good ways to make them. Roasting is never a disappointment if for nothing else. Dogs look better in this pic 😍

A long time ago i was at a barbecue, and thought to scoop all the edible sides into a toasted bun. A scoop of macaroni, a scoop of potato salad, some coleslaw. Drizzled with mustard. Delicious.

The anti-ketchup-on-hotdogs brigade are bordering on mentally ill… It’s a condiment – you don’t have to use it, it’s completely normal for others to use it. Ketchup for sweetness, mustard for sharp heat… it goes well together and makes a balanced flavour profile. I really do not understand this obsession they have with hunting down ketchup users like they were burning the American flag or shitting in the town well.

THAT BEING SAID …. these look awesome! I’ve seen a lot of recipes for carrot dogs but I haven’t tried them as I’ve always had access to pretty tasty veggie dogs, but I’ve moved recently and there aren’t any here at all, so I may give these a go!

I used to buy carrot lox when I lived in Montreal – a local place made them and sold them in jars, and it was amaaaazzziiiinnnnggggggggg. Even my mother who is a smoked salmon fanatic and generally hates vegetarian mock meats thought it was delicious.

I would probably pass. I just use the Morningstar dogs and they are delicious. Hormel also makes a delicious vegetarian chili if You want chili dogs.
