This was a very fun and well done meal!! Fermentation heavy with a lot of unique flavors and great balance. Highlights were the scallop with shio koji custard, house-made green pea miso with duck liver, and the red snapper with green curry (I’d never seen a fish with crispy scales! Looked like a tiny hedgehog haha). I think the sleeper was the potato ice cream with caviar and cheese crisp which was served over a salt and pepper cookie crumble. It perfectly saddled the sweet and savory line!
Kudos to the staff as well, they were a well oiled machine moving around in that small space with so much precision. Very, very enjoyable to watch them work!
Overall a great meal with some new and unique flavor combos, very glad I finally got around to trying it!

I did this a few years ago and thought the beer pairing was a cool option

How does it compare to Michelin rated restaurants? Do you think it would fall in the one star tier if it were to be in a city which is scored?

This looks awesome! Anytime I see Boston on here it always makes me think of Clio and I get a bit sad.

I have fond memories when I ate here right before the pandemic lockdown (Early March 2020). Easily my favorite dining experience in Boston.

My wife and I thought this was an amazing experience. It’s a small place and you get to see the staff putting everything together. The servings are basically plated in front of you. It’s not a bad price for what you get IMO. The wine pairings where on point, also. If you are in Boston, don’t miss out on this place.

I have dined at Tasting Counter several times (last time more than a year ago) and it is not a bad restaurant but after dining at some of the best restaurants in the world many times, I can see their shortcomings. And I know I should not be comparing it to 3 or even 2-star places because it doesn’t even have 1 Michelin star but somehow I am always doing it (not as creative, flavors don’t always wow me etc). I had a scallop dish as well, way too much custard for me.
Unfortunately Boston doesn’t have a very exciting dining scene, so I guess not a bad place for Boston (or Somerville to be exact).
