Omakase at Crane’s, DC

Japanese and Spanish done very well!

My favorite part? When I lived in Spain I adored rebujito and haven’t found it anywhere stateside besides here, and it was just as good as I remembered 👏

The desserts also felt especially creative!

It was around $150 pp if I remember correctly, we did get the beverage pairing as well as a couple cocktails each

For a pretty cheap tasting menu, I was very impressed! I wonder why they lost their star?

Spouse and I visited Crane’s this past July, and while the food was great, service seemed off compared to other starred places we’ve visited. I have only a superficial understanding of what all goes in to a Michelin rating, but service would be my guess. During our visit, service seemed lazy and inattentive, maybe even a bit rushed. My wife said to me that she wouldn’t be surprised if they lost their star and she was right.

  2. I did their lunch “bento,” and while each individual bite was good, they kind of missed the point of a bento, which is you take bits and pieces from each item and eat them together. The flavors were too big and contrasting for this format and it felt too much like a gimmicky presentation built upon a misunderstanding of Japanese cuisine. It would have been better to serve it in courses, than together, all at once.
