6 course tasting menu in the northern most city in the world! Not Michelin rated but very good, especially given the location.

We got 4 wine pairings for 4 of the courses (could have done 6, but chose not to given it was our last night).

Amuse bouche – Cream cheese and roe profiterole

First course – Smoked redfish with leeks & dijon

Second course – Fish soup with dill and seaweed

Third course – Scallop with chestnut and mushroom

Fourth course – Lobster tail with radish and bisque

Fifth course – Skrei fish with a truffle sauce and creamy mash

Dessert – Cherry sorbet with amaretto and lemon

Overall, it was an excellent experience, with gorgeous fresh ingredients and a few unique courses. My favourites being the chestnut scallop and lobster tail. The chestnut scallop was perfectly balanced and I loved the crunchy pickled layer hiding at the bottom.

However, I did feel that some of the courses were a tad uninspired. It felt as though the head chef had been to Copenhagen and copy and pasted a few courses (specifically from Høst). That said, it could very well be the other way around! The fish main in particular, I think was slightly underdone and just a bomb of cream and truffle.

A few of the wines were a unique pick, which I enjoyed. Notably the Barbera D’Alba from Portugal which was paired with our main (although wasn’t the best pairing), it was very red fruit heavy and had a lot of sour cherry notes with a hint of eucalyptus. The dessert wine was so much fun, a Malvira Birbet of 100% Brachetto grapes, a refreshing sparkling red, which was a great pick in comparison to the usual Muscats that you get.

Overall wonderful place and given Norway’s prices, I think good value too.
