  1. I have wanted to try Scratch Bar’s new-ish concept, Pasta Bar, for some time, and figured Valentine’s Day would be a good occasion to do so. They offered a special 12 course tasting menu ($250/person), with standard ($150/person) and vintage ($225/person) wine pairings available. We went with the vintage, and were underwhelmed with most of the choices. Highlights included a 2020 Chateu De La Cour Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, and an Italian Riesling that I forgot the details of.

The meal contained plenty of innovative fresh pastas, and a nice balance of other dishes as well. The staff were enthusiastic yet polished, and the dining room (a large chefs table, hence their name) was beautifully lit. We wanted to love it, but most of the meal was just okay. Stand out dishes were the Cavatelli with prawn, poblano, and caviar, the Tagliolini with walnut and perigord truffle, and the ultra-refreshing palate cleanser of a Lemon Granita with malted milk custard and black lime.

  2. That was the vintage wine pairing? Most of those bottles are ~$40ish. Don’t get me wrong I love that restaurants are putting wines like that Vitovksa on the menu, but at that price? Yikes.
