    Getting to go to SingleThread was actually a whole thing . I initially had a reservation for Christmas 2021, but the restaurant canceled due to COVID. I rescheduled to Valentine’s Day. The day before, I got a call that there was a fire in the kitchen, and they wouldn’t be able to accommodate us. Instead of canceling, I was determined to go and rescheduled again to July. As frustrating as the situation was, I understand that this was out of their control. They were extremely apologetic and offered to comp us a few drinks during the meal.

    Fast forward to earlier this month, finally my wife and I had the opportunity to dine at the restaurant. We were welcomed at the door by multiple hosts. Right away, they greeted us by our names, and we were handed welcome drink. I won’t go into too much details, but here’s the menu for the night:

    * Early Summer In Sonoma
    * California Caviar: Salanova, Kasu, and Upstate Abundance Potato
    * Usuzukuri Madai: Zucchini, Olive Oil, And Squash Blossom
    * Nodoguro: Corn Mochi, Basil, and Wakame
    * Ibushi-Gin Smoked Salmon: Katsuobushi, Cherry Tomatoes, and Cucumber
    * Sungold Tomato: Dry Creek Peach, Yuba, and Thyme
    * Duclair Duck: Strawberry, Kohlrabi, and Beets
    * Anago Shime: Koshihikari Rice, Hakurei Turnip, and Nori Pesto
    * Spiced Carrot: Hojicha, Chervil Milk, and Dukkah
    * Wagashi
    * Peach & Toasted Cinnamon
    * Rhubard and Chamomile
    * Blueberry and Pineapple Sage
    * Strawberry and Kinako

    Drinks: A glass of champagne and a glass of sauterne were on the house. We paid for 2 bottles of wine.

    What can I say? This meal was spectacular. I wanted to pick apart the experience due to the logistical “hiccups”, but they knocked it out of the park. Every single course was so delicious in a different way. I had to give a lot of credit to the team in really showcasing local ingredients, rooted in Japanese tradition. Service was great throughout the meal. We were addressed by our names by multiple people, and the overall atmosphere was not stuffy at all.

    In my opinion, SingleThread definitely lived up to all the hype. This might be my new favorite restaurant in the US. We’ll be hoping to return soon.

  2. Have you been to The French Laundry? If so, how does it compare. Price seems pretty steep and it’s exclusive of tax and tip. We have reservations next month at TFL and we were thinking of dining at Single Thread one of the days while we’re in Napa.

    I know this is a cliché question, but that meal looks beautiful! How much was it?!

    ST will be top 5 50 best in a few years IMO. It’s unreal that place.

  5. That looks and sounds fantastic. Newb question but how did you get a reservation? The slots on Tock seems full ALWAYS. And how far ahead did you have to book?

  6. I just watched the latest Mise En Place video from Eater on YouTube featuring SingleThread. Now I want to eat here even more than The French Laundry. All of my focus on July 1 went to getting a TFL reservation. My backup plan was Single thread and now they’re fully booked. Wish I looked into Single Thread more prior.
